Nature from within

Red Elephants Safari Lodge

The design for this lodge has reinvented the traditional safari-style architecture, creating a new safari experience for discerning travelers of “nature from within”, as well as blending state‐of‐the‐art sustainable architecture with a pioneering afro‐minimalist aesthetic. A hospitality venue where the structures are in harmony with their natural setting and minimize the human impact on this sensitive environment. All of these have been done through the intentional to craft a contemporary, yet timeless and undeniably appropriate series of spaces – all punctuated with natural materials, art works and a sense of desert-inspired luxury.

The safari lodge has a square footprint (18m x 18m). The heart of the complex is an expansive open‐plan lounge where, around it, are the reception, the kitchen, the toilets, the storage rooms, the dinning and lounge areas. The bedrooms suites are located at the edges of the building. The four units are conceived as mini‐lodges. Each unit has only four large single bed and a common bathroom around an open‐plan area ideal for conversations and relaxed moments after the excursions. The geometry of the roofs taken cues from the pyramidal grain silos found locally. The open nature of the design maximizes airflow through the structure in what is generally a hot and humid climate. Two small open pavilions located on the roof are particularly spectacular spots with long views towards the landscape where experience both sunrise and sunset.
