The proposed Eastern Region Line (ERL) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) 4-cars train running along the eastern corridor of approximately 13 km. This Line in the future would be able to serve the population in an economical and efficient mode of transport, a much welcome alternative transportation in the current green earth campaign. In addition, ERL serves as an extension from Thomson Line (TSL) serving the connection from the north western side to the eastern part of Singapore.
The architectural design process will involve the engineering requirements and systems very closely from the start to develop a cost-effective and optimal design without sacrificing a high standard of spatial design and enduring architectural design. The end product, including all the auxiliary facilities such as the commuter facilities, ventilation shafts, cooling towers shall consider and integrate the existing and future development of the surrounding area, so as to responds to the unique needs of each environment. This calls for an equally important close coordination with the relevant authorities, especially because of the nature of the probable station locations.
